Dad played this 78 rpm record on that night and recorded it with his tape
recorder. Merlin makes the comments at the end after the record is over.
The 78 rpm record was made in celebration of the 72nd wedding anniversary
of Great-Grandpa David and Great-Grandma Hilie. At the time of the
anniversary he was 91 and she was 88. They would celebrate a 73rd wedding
David William Yaden was born on May 27, 1855 in London, Kentucky.
Hilie Chestnut was born on September 11, 1858 in London, Kentucky.
They were married on January 14, 1875 in London, Kentucky. He was 19. She
was 16. Remember the average life expectancy in 1875 was approximately 45
David and Hilie had 12 children, two of which died as babies (Lulu and
Andrew), one who died as a young girl (Johnnie), and one who was killed at
age 18 by a German sniper during WWI while he served in the U.S. Army in
France (William "David").
The remaining eight children in order of age were:
Elizabeth born January 7, 1877 (You hear Mom speak of "Aunt Betty." She
was 20 years older than Grandpa Bud.)
Anna May born March 28, 1879 (Aunt May)
Janice born March 14, 1884 (Aunt Jane)
Hilie Della born August 25, 1886 (Aunt Dell)
Minnie Melvina born August 9, 1888 (Aunt Minn)
Lily Gertrude born June 12, 1890 (Aunt Gert)
Ella Pear born December 20, 1894 (Aunt Palla)
Byron William born January 21, 1897 (Grandpa Bud. Wow. So many older
sisters who all referred to him as "Buddy.")
Great-Grandma Hilie died on August 26, 1948 in Yakima. She was 89.
Great-Grandpa David died on December 27, 1949 in Yakima. He was 94.
